BARROW EX-SUBMARINER MURDOCH MACDONALD JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN PRESTON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Barrow and the wider region, Murdoch MacDonald, a man with a military background, was sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to a series of serious offences involving indecent images of children.The sentencing took place at Preston Crown Court, where Judge Mark Brown presided over the case.
MacDonald, aged 63 and residing on Abbey Road in Barrow, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images.
Specifically, he admitted to producing four counts of making a total of 283 Category A images, which are classified as the most severe form of child exploitation material.
Additionally, he acknowledged possessing 92 Category B images and 40 Category C images, along with the possession of indecent images overall.
Indecent images involving children are categorized from A to C, with Category A representing the most explicit and severe material.
The nature of MacDonald's offences, involving such a high number of Category A images, underscores the gravity of his actions.
MacDonald’s background includes a distinguished 22-year career in the Royal Navy, during which he served on several submarines, notably HMS Victorious.
His military service ended with him holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Despite his naval career, his recent criminal activities have overshadowed his service record.
Originally from near Fort William in Scotland, MacDonald previously resided in Portsmouth before moving to Barrow.
His criminal conduct has led to his immediate detention, and he will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a standard procedure for such serious offences.
