MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN IN HOSPITAL WHEELCHAIR IN LONDON
A man identified as Mukhtar Jama has been sentenced to one year in prison after he sexually assaulted a woman in a wheelchair at St Mary's Hospital in London. The incident occurred in early February, when Jama approached the female patient while she was being wheeled back to a ward by a hospital porter.
The court heard that Jama took her right hand and kissed it, asking if she was okay, before he proceeded to grope her breasts.
Police responded to the scene, arrested Jama, and he later pleaded guilty to the sexual assault.
Jama, who resides on Pinkwell Lane in Hayes, has a criminal history that includes four prior convictions for sexual assaults.
Notably, three of these offenses took place after Jama suffered brain damage in a road traffic accident in 2019, which his legal representative claimed affected his capacity for consequential thinking.
Despite this, the judge, Christopher Hehir, emphasized that Jama was fully aware of his actions and that they were wrong.
The judge remarked, “You knew what you were doing and you knew what you were doing was wrong,” underscoring the court's view that Jama posed a continuing threat to women.
In sentencing, the court acknowledged Jama’s risk to public safety and justified the custodial sentence, despite arguments relating to his injury and mental state, to serve as a deterrent and to protect other potential victims.
