MUHAMMED UMAR'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN LEICESTER: TEENAGE GIRL ATTACKED IN NARBOROUGH ROAD ALLEYWAY
In March 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded in Leicester involving a homeless man named Muhammed Umar, who committed a heinous assault against a teenage girl in a secluded alleyway. The young girl, only 15 years old at the time, was subjected to a terrifying ordeal after she encountered Umar in an alley off Narborough Road, Leicester.
Umar, a homeless asylum seeker, forcibly detained the girl and threatened her with harm if she did not comply with his demands.
He seized her and, in a distressing act, forced her to engage in sexual activity on a mattress that was situated in a narrow passageway adjacent to a side street where he was sleeping rough.
The assault took place during the late hours of the night, adding to the vulnerability of the victim.
Despite denying the charge of rape, Muhammed Umar was found guilty by a jury at Leicester Crown Court, which reached a unanimous verdict.
The court proceedings were emotionally charged, especially as the victim’s mother sat in the dock, visibly distressed, as she recounted the profound and lasting impact the assault had inflicted upon her daughter.
The mother described how her daughter’s life has been irrevocably changed, emphasizing the psychological scars left behind.
She explained that her daughter now suffers from nightmares and flashbacks, often reliving the traumatic experience.
The girl reportedly feels the presence of her attacker, describing how she can still feel him breathing on top of her during the assault.
Her fear has become so overwhelming that she is now frightened to sleep, a sign of the deep psychological trauma she endures.
Judge Marcus Tregilgas-Davey presided over the case and delivered the sentence.
He condemned Umar for deliberately targeting a vulnerable, lone teenage girl late at night, highlighting the predatory nature of his actions.
The judge noted that Umar engaged in unprotected sex without regard for the consequences, which took place on August 24 of the previous year.
The judge remarked on the significant emotional and psychological toll the assault had on the victim, noting her transition from being an outgoing individual to someone who has become withdrawn and reserved.
Prosecutor Jonathan Straw provided details of the incident, explaining that the girl was staying at a friend’s family home that evening.
She had gone for a walk around 11 pm, seeking fresh air due to a headache, when she unexpectedly encountered Umar.
The court heard that the girl blamed herself for not being able to prevent the assault, and she has since struggled with feelings of worthlessness, resorting to self-harm and requiring professional counseling to cope with her trauma.
Umar, an Egyptian national with no fixed address, is scheduled to undergo mental health treatment for paranoid schizophrenia in a secure psychiatric facility.
Following this treatment, he will be transferred back to prison to serve his sentence.
The court sentenced him to nine years in prison, reflecting the severity of his crime and the lasting impact on the victim’s life.
