MUHAMED UMAR JAILED FOR RAPE IN LEICESTER NEAR NARBOROUGH ROAD
In March 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Leicester involving a young girl who was subjected to a brutal sexual assault late at night.The victim, a 15-year-old schoolgirl, was out for a walk along Narborough Road when she encountered Muhamed Umar, a 23-year-old man who would change her life forever.
According to court proceedings, Umar deliberately targeted the girl, recognizing her youth and vulnerability as she strolled along the street around 11:30 pm.
He initially caught her attention by whistling at her and then approached her, engaging in a brief exchange of words.
During this encounter, Umar threatened her, warning that if she did not comply with his demands, something bad would happen to her.
The girl, understandably terrified by his words and demeanor, felt compelled to follow him, believing her safety was at risk.
Umar then led her to a secluded side street, an alleyway situated between two houses, where he committed the assault.
Despite her protests and her saying “no,” he overpowered her, pulled down her clothing, and raped her.
The court heard that he ignored her pleas and continued his assault without protection.
The victim’s distress was palpable; after the attack, she went to a friend’s house, where she was seen tearing at her clothes in a state of emotional turmoil, clearly distraught and deeply affected by the trauma she had endured.
The judge, Marcus Tregilgas-Davey, addressed the court and emphasized the gravity of Umar’s actions.
He stated that Umar was found guilty by a jury of raping a minor and that the attack took place in a dingy, dirty passageway off Narborough Road.
The judge highlighted that Umar had deliberately targeted the girl, recognizing her youth and vulnerability, and that his actions were premeditated.
During the trial, Umar attempted to claim that the encounter was consensual, a claim the court swiftly dismissed.
The judge made it clear that the jury saw through this lie and that the victim bore no responsibility for what happened to her.
He underscored that Umar’s behavior was predatory and that he showed no remorse for his actions.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Tregilgas-Davey acknowledged that Umar was a young man with mental health difficulties.
He ordered a “hybrid order,” which allows Umar to receive inpatient mental health treatment in a secure facility before serving the remainder of his sentence in prison.
The judge’s decision reflects the seriousness of the crime and the need for appropriate mental health intervention alongside punishment.
