REFUGEE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN PUB
A man described as a 'dangerous' sexual offender, who assaulted a woman in a women's toilet at a pub while attempting to find 'intoxicated' victims, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison.Mohammed Mohammed, aged 24, had been bothering women at a pub in Darlington before he followed one woman into a cubicle, posing as a bouncer and forcibly touching her, as revealed in court proceedings at Teesside Crown Court.
The woman, who was rescued by a friend, explained that the incident in July 2024 had profoundly affected her, changing her outlook.
Originally, Mohammed, a refugee from Sudan residing in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, admitted to sexual assault.
However, he later sought to withdraw his plea, a move that was denied by the judge, but which resulted in a delay of a year and caused additional distress for the victim.
Prosecutor Paul Newcombe stated that Mohammed deliberately stood near the women’s toilets for about thirty minutes, during which he approached several women.
His actions included blocking one woman’s path, attempting to kiss another, touching a third woman's hair, and engaging others in unwanted conversations, all of which were clearly unwelcome.
The court heard that when the victim entered the toilet, Mohammed grabbed her arm, asked her to dance, and expressed his liking for her rejections she made.
He then followed her into a bathroom cubicle, claiming to be a bouncer needing to see her ID.
When she opened the door, Mohammed pushed her back inside, took off his belt, and groped her beneath her dress, the court was told.
