MOHAMMED IQBAL SENTENCED FOR BRUTALITIES IN WAKEFIELD

Mohammed Iqbal, aged 19, has been sentenced to a substantial period of incarceration following a series of heinous acts committed within his own residence in Wakefield.

Over the course of nearly a month, Iqbal subjected a man to relentless abuse, including physical assaults, psychological humiliation, and sexual violence, all while the victim was grappling with significant mental health challenges.

The incident took place between April and May of the previous year, during which Iqbal exploited the man’s vulnerability and dependence, which was exacerbated by his diagnosed severe mental health issues.

The court proceedings revealed that Iqbal sold drugs to the victim, further complicating the victim’s circumstances and making him more susceptible to Iqbal’s manipulations and abusive conduct.

At Leeds Crown Court, Iqbal faced a series of serious criminal charges.

Although he initially denied the accusations, he was ultimately found guilty after a trial that concluded in February.

The presiding judge, Recorder Hill-Baker, described the gravity of Iqbal’s actions, stating, “You assaulted him repeatedly with a number of weapons, causing him multiple bruising and burnt him with a lit cigarette.

You further humiliated him by sexually abusing him.

He lived in fear of the assaults.” The court also heard distressing details about the sexual abuse inflicted by Iqbal.

On two separate occasions, he compelled the victim to perform sexual acts, and he sexually assaulted him using a vacuum cleaner.

Adding to the severity of his crimes, Iqbal threatened to give crack cocaine to the victim’s son if he dared to report the abuse to the police, illustrating the extent of his intimidation tactics.

In legal terms, Iqbal was convicted of several grave offenses, including sexual assault, causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and holding the victim in a state of slavery or servitude.

He was also found guilty of two counts of actual bodily harm and attempted assault by penetration.

The court emphasized that these acts were part of a continuous course of conduct rather than isolated incidents, leading the judge to conclude that Iqbal was a dangerous offender.

As a result, the court sentenced Iqbal to 12 years in prison.

This sentence comprised an initial prison term of 10 years complemented by a two-year extended licence period.

Furthermore, Iqbal was subjected to an indeterminate restraining order, designed to prevent him from approaching or contacting the victim in the future.

He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.

This case highlights the disturbing extent of abuse that can occur within private spaces and underscores the importance of rigorous legal actions to protect vulnerable individuals from perpetrators like Mohammed Iqbal.
