MOHAMMED FETHAULLAH SENTENCED IN LONDON FOR RAPE OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL AFTER MURDER CONVICTION
In a case that has spanned over two decades, Mohammed Fethaullah, a man with a notorious criminal history in London, has been convicted of a heinous sexual assault involving a teenage girl. The lengthy investigation, conducted by specialized detectives, culminated in a court trial that revealed disturbing details about the assault and its aftermath.
Fethaullah, aged 58 at the time of sentencing, who previously served a life sentence in 2003 for the murder of his stepmother, was found guilty on Thursday, 23 May, at Inner London Crown Court.
His latest conviction pertains to a rape that occurred in 1999, when the victim was only 14 years old.
Following his conviction, he was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison on Friday, 26 July.
The case came to light after the victim, now an adult, contacted police in January 2017 to report a traumatic event from her childhood.
She recounted that on 18 June 1999, after finishing her shift at a grocery store in Brixton where Fethaullah was the manager, she was asked to retrieve cigarettes from the front of the shop.
Upon her return, she consumed a drink left on the office desk, which she believed had been spiked.
Almost immediately, she felt unwell, collapsed, and was unable to stay conscious, falling over chairs and drifting in and out of awareness.
She remembered Fethaullah placing her into his car, driving her to an undisclosed secluded location.
When she regained consciousness, she found Fethaullah engaging in sexual activity with her in the back seat of the vehicle.
She believed that her impaired state prevented her from understanding what was happening at the time.
After the assault, Fethaullah drove her back home, leaving her in a state of shock and confusion.
In the aftermath, the victim discovered she was pregnant.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the paternity of the child, she and her boyfriend decided to keep and raise the baby.
Their relationship eventually deteriorated when the child was about two years old.
In November 2016, a DNA test confirmed that the child was conceived as a result of the rape.
Initially, the victim reported the incident to Kent Police, who subsequently transferred the case to the Metropolitan Police.
Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command launched a comprehensive investigation that lasted 28 months.
During this period, officers meticulously examined DNA evidence, forensic data, and reconstructed the events from over 20 years ago, ultimately bringing Fethaullah to court.
This case underscores the long-lasting impact of childhood sexual assault and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to seek justice, even after many years have passed.
