THREE MEN JAILED FOR 1990S SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRL
Three men have received custodial sentences after being found guilty of sexually abusing a vulnerable teenage girl in West Yorkshire during the 1990s.Zahid Hussain, Mohammed Chhibda, and Basharat Wali, all residents of Dewsbury, were accused of intentionally targeting the girl, then aged between 13 and 17, for sexual abuse in the towns of Dewsbury and Ossett from 1994 to 1997, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, Hussain, aged 48, was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison, while Chhibda, age 49, received an 11-year sentence for two counts of indecent assault.
Basharat Wali, aged 46, who had previously admitted to two counts of indecent assault, was sentenced to 12 months.
During the court proceedings, the survivor described how the abuse had deeply affected her, stating, "They took pieces of my soul, pieces of my body, pieces of me that I will never get back." The court heard that her childhood was notably disrupted, with her introduced to older male teenagers and adult men, leading her to stop attending school regularly.
She was given alcohol and sexually assaulted at various locations, including a party and inside a parked car.
Additionally, a fourth individual, Jagtar Sahota, aged 65 from Leeds, was sentenced on April 29th to 21 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of 11 counts of rape, 11 counts of indecent assault, and one count of actual bodily harm.
His offenses against the same girl occurred between 1997 and 2000.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the victim had been working at one of Sahota's takeaway businesses, where she was "isolated and vulnerable", having already suffered sexual exploitation by other men.
In a statement for the court, the survivor said: "I was so young, so vulnerable, and they knew exactly what they were doing.
"They didn't care that I was a child.
They didn't care that I didn't understand.
They used me, abused me then discarded me.
"The worst part was the abuse didn't stop when it ended.
"It never ends.
Every time I go into a bathroom or hear certain music played in a car, the fear and memories flood back like a tidal wave."
