MANCHESTER MAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE ABUSE
A man aged 36 from Manchester was sentenced to serve three years in prison for engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour towards his ex-partner and her family. The investigation revealed that Imtiaz had threatened to disfigure his ex with acid, tracked her movements, sent malicious messages, and made threats to have her raped. He constructed a strict relationship contract dictating what she could wear, where she could go, and who she could meet. Throughout 2021, Imtiaz sought to intimidate her family, isolate her from friends, and even threatened to steal her grandfather's ashes. This campaign of abusive, violent, and threatening conduct caused immense fear for the victims and their families, leaving them feeling paranoid and unsafe. At Bolton Crown Court, Imtiaz was sentenced to three years in custody. The victim and her family have been granted indefinite restraining orders. Detective Inspector Mark Astbury emphasized that domestic abuse and controlling behaviour are unacceptable and assured that anyone engaging in such criminal conduct will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
