MOHAMED ELSHAMY JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON HASTINGS SEAFRONT
In a disturbing incident that took place in Hastings, a man named Mohamed Elshamy has been sentenced to prison for a serious sexual assault that occurred along the town’s seafront. The assault happened during the early hours of Sunday, December 18, 2022, after the victim, a 24-year-old woman, was at a Christmas party held in Hastings.According to reports, Elshamy, who was unemployed and residing at Carlisle Parade in Hastings, encountered the woman at The Crypt, a popular nightclub located on Robertson Street. Witnesses and security footage indicate that within moments of their initial meeting, Elshamy was seen leading her out of the club. The footage shows him guiding her through an underpass that leads toward the seafront, where the assault took place.
Surveillance cameras captured disturbing images of Elshamy forcibly attempting to kiss the woman and pulling at her clothing as they reached the beach area. The footage further revealed that he engaged in a sexual assault on the beach, leaving the woman visibly distressed and alone after the incident. The images played a crucial role in identifying Elshamy as the suspect.
Following the release of the CCTV footage, authorities swiftly arrested Elshamy on suspicion of sexual assault. Despite his initial plea of not guilty, the case proceeded to trial at Lewes Crown Court. The court proceedings confirmed his guilt, and on June 26, Elshamy was sentenced to six years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender, a measure that underscores the severity of his crime and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
Elshamy’s conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the importance of surveillance and swift law enforcement response in tackling sexual crimes. The incident has left a lasting impact on the victim and the local community, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance and safety measures along Hastings’ seafront and nightlife venues.
