MOHAMED ELSHAMY AND THE SHOCKING SEX CRIME IN HASTINGS
On the early hours of Sunday, December 18, 2022, Mohamed Elshamy was involved in a disturbing incident that unfolded in Hastings. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, met Elshamy inside The Crypt, a popular nightclub situated on Robertson Street. Shortly after their encounter, within a matter of minutes, witnesses observed Elshamy leading her out of the venue. The pair was then seen moving through an underpass towards the seafront, a stretch of Hastings known for its scenic beaches.Security cameras installed in the area captured troubling footage of Elshamy forcefully attempting to kiss the woman. The footage also showed him pulling at her clothing in what appeared to be an aggressive sexual advance, demonstrating a clear violation of her personal boundaries. The CCTV footage continued to document the disturbing events on the beach, where Elshamy was seen sexually assaulting the woman. After the assault, he walked away from the scene, leaving her alone and visibly distressed.
Elshamy, who was living at Carlisle Parade in Hastings and identified as unemployed, was quickly identified through the CCTV images that captured the assault. His identification led to his arrest on suspicion of sexual assault. Despite denying the charges and pleading not guilty, Elshamy’s case proceeded to trial at Lewes Crown Court.
Following a thorough trial, the jury found him guilty of the charges. On June 26, the court sentenced Elshamy to six years behind bars. Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender, a requirement that underscores the serious nature of his crimes.
The investigation was led by Detective Constable Kelly Yates, who commented on the case: “Mohamed Elshamy had only met the victim for a matter of minutes before taking advantage of the fact she was intoxicated and in a vulnerable state, and sexually assaulting her for his own gratification. Elshamy’s behaviour was dangerous and predatory, and we’re pleased to see the severity of his actions reflected in a custodial sentence.”
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and timely law enforcement intervention in safeguarding victims and ensuring justice in cases of sexual assault.
