MITCHELL GLEAVE'S HORRIFIC ATTACK IN WYTHENSHAWE, MANCHESTER LEAVES WOMAN TRAUMATIZED
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wythenshawe in Manchester, Mitchell Gleave, born on December 20, 1995, was convicted and sentenced for a brutal and sustained assault on a woman in her own home.Gleave, who has no fixed address, appeared before Manchester Crown Court to face justice for a series of serious charges stemming from an incident that took place on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
According to court proceedings, the victim was at her residence in Wythenshawe on that Saturday morning when Gleave, whom she knew only vaguely as an acquaintance, came to her door requesting to use her mobile phone.
She agreed to his request, but Gleave left shortly after and returned twice more, each time asking to borrow her phone.
On the third visit, his tone grew aggressive, and when she declined his request, Gleave's behavior escalated into violence.
Gleave forcibly prevented the victim from closing her front door and then proceeded to put his hand around her neck, pushing her back into her house.
The victim vividly recalled losing consciousness after Gleave had squeezed her throat with enough force to cut off her airflow.
When she regained consciousness, she found Gleave using her phone and demanding money, asking if she had any cash at home.
His grip on her neck persisted, causing her to lose consciousness multiple times during the ordeal.
During the attack, Gleave sat on top of her, covering her mouth to silence her screams, and punched her on the side of her body.
Despite her efforts to call for help by shouting out of a nearby window, Gleave threatened to kill her, heightening the terror of the situation.
After Gleave left the house, the victim managed to escape and sought help from neighbors, leading to the police being called to the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to Gleave being charged with multiple offenses, including rape, attempted choking with intent, making threats to kill, assault, and robbery.
The court heard evidence that, while unconscious, the victim believed Gleave had sexually assaulted her, a charge for which he was later convicted.
The court sentenced Gleave for his crimes, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the lasting impact on the victim.
The case underscores the importance of community awareness and the need for swift justice in cases of violent assault in Manchester.
