CANNOCK MAN FACES JAIL AFTER CAMPAIGN OF COERCIVE ABUSE AGAINST GIRLFRIEND
A BULLYING boyfriend who didn't allow his girlfriend to wear make-up, take a shower, or even bathe without his permission is facing jail, according to a court hearing.Mitchell Bain, aged 20, was found to have led a "campaign of cruelty" against his partner Jessica Gospel, which involved controlling her clothing choices and assaulting her.The court heard that Bain was subjected Jessica to months of emotional and physical abuse.He would tell her what to wear, accuse her of cheating with another man, and demand photographs to verify her fidelity.
Jessica was described as being left "frightened and vulnerable," with Bain requiring her to send him pictures when he was away to ensure she was obeying him.The abuse intensified, beginning with pushing her against a wall in July, and escalating to more violent assaults, including beatings that led her to hospital.
The coercive behavior reportedly started in January, lasting for several months.
Jessica eventually revealed the extent of her ordeal after a severe assault that hospitalised her.Bain was arrested and admitted to three counts of assault and one charge of coercive behavior in an intimate relationship.
He initially denied the charges but changed his plea in court on a subsequent date.
Bain, who has no previous convictions, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15 and has been told to stay away from Jessica as part of his bail conditions.The magistrate highlighted the seriousness of Bain's actions, emphasizing the number and severity of the offences and the nature of his behavior.
