A resident of Gillingham, Kent, has been sentenced to prison for the serious crime of sexually abusing a young child. The offender, Milen Ivanov, targeted his young victim over a period spanning from June 1 to August 9, 2022.
During this time, Ivanov manipulated the child into believing they were in a romantic relationship, which facilitated his abusive actions.
The disturbing case came to light when the child confided in their parents about the inappropriate conduct.
Following this disclosure, the parents promptly contacted Kent Police to report the matter.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, leading to Ivanov's arrest on August 28, 2022.
At the time of his arrest, Ivanov was residing on Chaucer Road in Gillingham.
Initially, Ivanov was released on bail under strict conditions, including a prohibition on contacting the victim.
However, during this bail period, he committed further offences.
These included sharing indecent images of the child and making threats towards the victim, actions that compounded his criminal behavior.
The police investigation uncovered additional evidence, leading to charges against Ivanov.
He faced multiple serious allegations, including two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, intimidating a witness, producing indecent photographs of a child, and disclosing a private sexual photograph without consent.
On October 26, 2023, Ivanov appeared before Maidstone Crown Court, where he was sentenced to a total of six years and eight months in prison.
The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors, and a five-year restraining order to prevent him from approaching or communicating with the victim or their family after his release.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Kent to combat child exploitation and ensure that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
