MIHAI SAVESCU SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS IN PRISON IN STOKE-ON-TRENT FOR RAPE OFFENSES
Detectives have commended the bravery of a woman whose testimony was instrumental in securing a 17-year prison sentence for Mihai Savescu.The 34-year-old, residing on Chaplin Road in Longton, was convicted after a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court of multiple counts of rape.
Staffordshire Police have expressed their support for the sentence imposed.
Detective Constable Diane Sproston, from the force’s rape and serious sexual offences unit, stated: "Savescu was predatory and manipulative.
I’d like to commend the victim who bravely came forward and reported these appalling crimes.
She has shown incredible bravery and cooperation throughout the court process." She added: "I hope the sentence provides some form of closure and comfort, knowing Savescu will be behind bars for a long time." Following his imprisonment, Romanian national Savescu will be deported once he has served his sentence.
He will also remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and is prohibited from participating in activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
