MICHAL PICZAK AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT ON WOMAN ON LONDON NIGHT TUBE
In a disturbing case that cracked down on predatory behavior on public transport in London, Michal Piczak, aged 31, has been sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman aboard the Night Tube. The assault, which took place during the early hours of September 29, 2019, has brought attention to ongoing concerns about personal safety and misconduct on London’s subway system.
The incident unfolded when the victim, traveling alone on a Victoria line night service, gradually fell asleep during her journey.
As the train approached Walthamstow Central Underground station, she was abruptly awakened to find Piczak engaging in inappropriate behavior—specifically, him stroking her legs while she was still asleep.
Startled and distressed, she immediately kicked out to deter him and try to remove his unwanted contact.
Realizing that she was being assaulted, the woman quickly attracted the attention of nearby station staff.
She pointed at Piczak and shouted, “Stop him, he’s been touching me,” clearly indicating her distress and identifying him as the perpetrator.
The response was swift; a British Transport Police officer who was present at the station responded quickly to her call and apprehended Piczak at the scene.
Investigations soon confirmed the woman’s account.
CCTV footage captured the moment Piczak reached over the aisle of the Tube car to touch the sleeping woman, then moved closer to her and continued to stroke her legs.
These recordings provided crucial evidence in the case, highlighting the predatory nature of Piczak’s actions.
Detective Constable Ibrar Ahmed, the investigating officer, made a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the offense.
He described Piczak as “a sordid sex offender who targeted a lone woman as she slept and subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault.” He further underscored the message that law enforcement sends against such conduct, stating, “His jail term sends out a clear message to anyone who exhibits this type of behaviour on the railway – we will catch you and bring you to justice without exception.” Following the incident, Piczak, of Station Road, Walthamstow, appeared in court on October 28 at the Inner London Crown Court.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charge of sexual assault, a jury found him guilty after a trial.
The judge sentenced Piczak to serve one year behind bars and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, emphasizing the severity and criminal nature of his actions.
This case reinforces the ongoing efforts by police and judicial authorities in London to clamp down on sexual misconduct in public spaces, especially within the transport network, and serves as a stark reminder of the law’s stance on such conduct.
