January 2018 Pervert groomed teen before going to youngster’s home to have sex with her   This St Helens man groomed a teenage girl on social media before travelling to the youngster’s home to have sex with her. Michael Wood, who is married, made contact with what police described as a “vulnerable” 15-year-old girl via Twitter in December 2015. Officers say the 34-year-old predator knew his victim was underage when he contacted her and only “groomed her for the purposes of having sex with her”. Wood, of Cavan Drive, travelled from his home to Darwen to commit the despicable act on the teenage girl. The pervert admitted three counts of sexual activity with a child when he appeared at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, January 4, and was jailed for three years. Detective Constable Sal Yusaf said: “We welcome the sentence. “Wood targeted a vulnerable teenage girl and groomed her for the purposes of meeting her and having sex with her. “He clearly knew she was underage when he contacted her and when the sexual activity started but that didn’t stop him. “He was aware that the victim was infatuated with him and he used her to satisfy his perverted sexual desires.” Wood was also given a seven year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was put on the sex offenders register.
