In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Swadlincote, Michael Williams, a 52-year-old resident of Midway Road, has been sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction on multiple charges related to child exploitation and possession of indecent images. The case was heard at Derby Crown Court, where Williams admitted to possessing a vast collection of illegal material and engaging in criminal activities involving minors.
The investigation revealed that Williams had accumulated and stored over 900 indecent images and movies depicting children on his computer over a period spanning from December 14, 2010, to June 6, 2016. These included a wide range of categories, with some of the most severe involving extreme pornography and acts performed on live animals, which are considered among the most heinous forms of such material. Specifically, Williams admitted to possessing 179 extreme pornographic movies and 385 images involving bestiality, all linked to Swadlincote.
Further details of his offenses include the possession of 595 movies and images of children, categorized into different levels of severity. Among these, he admitted to making 100 Category C indecent movies and 15 images, which are considered less severe but still illegal. He also possessed 76 Category B movies and six images, and 186 Category A movies along with nine images, which are classified as the most serious due to their explicit and harmful content. These acts also took place within the same timeframe, from December 14, 2010, to June 6, 2016.
In addition to possession, Williams pleaded guilty to creating and sharing indecent material himself. He made 34 Category C self-generated movies of a child, along with 16 movies in Category B, and four in Category A, all between January 20, 2016, and June 3, 2016, in Swadlincote. These self-produced videos further highlight the extent of his criminal behavior.
Moreover, Williams was found guilty of actively encouraging minors to engage in sexual activities. He incited a boy under the age of 16 to participate in sexual acts on two occasions, May 26, 2016, and June 9, 2016. He also incited a girl under 16 to engage in similar conduct on December 14, 2011. These actions demonstrate a pattern of predatory behavior aimed at vulnerable minors.
As part of his sentencing, Williams has been handed a six-year prison term. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect until further notice, to restrict his future activities and protect the community. Additionally, he has been placed on a barring list that prevents him from working with children in any capacity, reflecting the severity of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to minors.
