A man who publicly exposed himself and engaged in masturbatory acts beside a woman with a stroller at a railway station in West Yorkshire has been imprisoned following an investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).
Michael Wainwright, aged 74 and residing on Ashenhurst Road in Calderdale, received an eight-month jail term and was also subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order by Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, 25 June.
Wainwright had earlier admitted to the offence of Exposure, pleaded guilty on 30 April at Bradford Magistrates' Court.
According to court proceedings, on Sunday, 22 February, shortly before noon, a woman reported to a station staff member at Hebden Bridge railway station that a man, Wainwright, was masturbating on the platform near a woman with a pushchair.
The staff member reviewed the live CCTV footage but initially saw nothing suspicious, prompting him to go out to the platform for a closer look.
On inspecting the area, he observed Wainwright with his genitals exposed and engaged in masturbation.
He promptly notified police authorities.
Police officers responded swiftly, attending the station, arresting Wainwright, and bringing him into custody.
During police questioning, Wainwright acknowledged his actions, expressing awareness that what he did was wrong but was unable to provide a reason for his behaviour.
