MICHAEL SMITH FROM HYDE JAILED AGAIN FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE INVOLVING CORONATION STREET STAR

In a disturbing case that has once again brought the spotlight onto the dangers posed by known offenders, Michael Smith, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been sentenced to prison following his latest conviction for sexually abusing a young girl. The incident took place in Hyde, Greater Manchester, where Smith’s predatory behavior culminated in a heinous act of sexual assault against a vulnerable teenager.

According to court records, Smith, aged 49, had been grooming his victim over several months prior to the assault. The young girl, whose age was underage, was manipulated and deceived by Smith, who convinced her that she was in love with him. The grooming process involved persistent communication and emotional manipulation, which ultimately led to Smith arranging to pick her up from her home in Warrington in February of the previous year.

On the day of the incident, Smith drove the girl from Warrington to his flat in Hyde, where he committed the sexual assault. The victim managed to contact the police early the next morning, around 5:30 am, which led to her rescue and the subsequent investigation. The authorities acted swiftly, and Smith was arrested and brought to justice.

Earlier this month, Smith was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court sentenced him to eight years in prison on Friday, May 4. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judge imposed a four-year extended license period, requiring Smith to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. The judge described him as a ‘danger to the public,’ emphasizing the serious threat he poses.

Smith’s criminal record is extensive and includes a notorious incident from 2002, when he was sentenced to seven years in prison for stabbing actor John Savident, who is best known for his role as Fred Elliott in Coronation Street. During that attack, Smith stabbed Mr. Savident in the throat with a blade, narrowly missing a major artery. The actor managed to barricade himself out of his home and called emergency services, which saved his life. Smith’s violent history and previous convictions highlight a pattern of dangerous and unpredictable behavior.

It is known that Smith, a former sex worker, was aware that his victim was underage and vulnerable at the time of the assault. Despite this knowledge, he deliberately exploited her trust, grooming her over an extended period and convincing her that she was in love with him. His actions reflect a calculated attempt to manipulate and harm a young girl, with devastating consequences.
