MICHAEL SHALLCROSS SENTENCED FOR ADDITIONAL CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
A convicted paedophile, Michael Frank Shallcross, has received an extended prison term after admitting to further child sex offences.The court heard that Shallcross, 67 years old, from Stoke-on-Trent, repeatedly subjected his victim to abuse over several years.
These additional crimes came to light after the victim, demonstrating remarkable courage, came forward in 2014 to report the years of horrific abuse.
Shallcross was already serving a sentence for previous offences when these new allegations emerged.
His latest charges consisted of eight counts of gross indecency with a child and one count of indecent assault of a child.
During the court proceedings, Shallcross admitted to these offences, which he had initially denied, showing a level of remorse or acknowledgment of his actions.
The sentencing took place at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday, March 30.
The judge sentenced Shallcross to an additional 20 months of imprisonment, which will run consecutively to his existing sentence, effectively extending his time behind bars.
Currently, he is incarcerated at HMP Oakwood in Featherstone.
Following the court hearing, Staffordshire Police's Detective Constable Dan Martin expressed his support for the victim and emphasized the importance of justice.
He stated, “The victim in this case has shown immense bravery to report the abuse suffered at the hands of Shallcross.
I hope this demonstrates that the force will continue to pursue offenders and investigate reports, no matter how long ago they took place, in order to secure justice for victims.” Authorities continue to encourage individuals who have experienced sexual abuse to come forward.
