MICHAEL ROBINSON SHAMES WORLEY AND FOREST FIELDS WITH CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Michael Robinson, a man previously entrusted with the care of children at Hazelwood boys’ home in Forest Fields, has been convicted of heinous crimes committed during the 1980s. The court proceedings, which spanned over three weeks, culminated in a verdict that has left a lasting impact on the victims and the wider public.Michael Robinson, aged 65 and residing in Hermit Hill, Worley, was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and one charge of taking an indecent photograph of a child. The jury’s decision was based on evidence presented during the trial, which detailed the abuse inflicted upon boys at the Hazelwood facility. Despite being cleared of 16 other allegations, including two serious sexual offence claims, the conviction on these specific charges marked a significant moment in the pursuit of justice.
Judge Stuart Rafferty QC delivered a stern sentence, sentencing Robinson to eight years in prison. As part of his punishment, Robinson was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and was explicitly barred from working with children in any capacity in the future. The judge emphasized the profound and lasting damage caused by Robinson’s actions, stating that his abuse had “blighted boys for life.”
During the sentencing, the judge recounted some of the disturbing details of the abuse. One victim was subjected to “a lifetime of embarrassment” after being spanked while naked, an act that left deep emotional scars. Another victim was blindfolded and touched inappropriately, with a naked photograph taken by Robinson being seen by others, further compounding the trauma.
Judge Rafferty also addressed the psychological impact of Robinson’s actions, noting that childhood experiences heavily influence individuals’ lives. He remarked, “The marks you left were all negative,” underscoring the lasting harm inflicted on the victims. Additionally, the judge revealed that Robinson’s trial was delayed for a week because he had taken the drastic step of attempting to take his own life, and he would be placed on suicide watch while incarcerated.
This case highlights the dark history of abuse within institutions meant to protect children and serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in safeguarding vulnerable populations.
