MICHAEL PODLUBNY'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN LEICESTER AND HARROGATE REVEALED
In November 2018, Michael Podlubny, a man with a deeply troubling history of sexual offenses, was once again brought into custody after authorities uncovered his disturbing online activities involving indecent images of children.The case highlights a pattern of predatory behavior that spans decades, with Podlubny’s criminal record including multiple serious convictions and a life sentence for rape.
Podlubny, aged 64, was living in Leicester at the time of his latest breach of license conditions.
He had been released from prison on a life license in October of the previous year, with strict conditions that mandated regular polygraph testing and restrictions on his internet use.
Despite these measures, he violated the terms of his release by viewing illegal images of children, which was uncovered during a police investigation following his breach of contact restrictions with a registered sex offender in another county.
Law enforcement officials seized two of Podlubny’s mobile phones, which revealed a disturbing pattern of internet searches for extreme and violent sexual content, including violent attacks.
More alarmingly, investigators found that he had accessed six indecent images of minors, categorized as one in the most severe category A, one in category B, and four in category C.
These findings prompted his immediate recall to prison, where he faced serious charges.
During the court proceedings at Leicester Crown Court, Judge Philip Head addressed the severity of Podlubny’s criminal history, describing it as “a frightening record of sex offending.” The judge noted that Podlubny was released from a life sentence on the recommendation of the Parole Board in October 2017, with conditions that included residing in appropriate accommodation.
The judge emphasized that the recent offenses and the nature of the material found on his phones would significantly impact any future considerations regarding his release.
In his sentencing, Judge Head imposed an eight-month prison term, explaining that the sentence reflected Podlubny’s cooperation with police and his attitude during the investigation.
The judge also stated that the Parole Board would not be able to consider his release for at least eight months, and there was a possibility that they might decide he should never be released.
Additionally, Podlubny was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, which grants authorities ongoing monitoring of his internet activity, and he was registered as a sex offender for life.
Looking back to December 2004, Podlubny’s past was equally dark.
At that time, he was convicted of multiple serious offenses, including three counts of rape and an attempted rape involving two women.
His criminal activities were concealed from colleagues, friends, and family, including his wife, who was battling terminal cancer.
Despite being sentenced to concurrent life terms, his guilty pleas led to automatic reductions, and he was told that parole was unlikely before he became elderly.
Judge Paul Hoffman at York Crown Court described Podlubny as a “Jekyll and Hyde” character, emphasizing the danger he posed.
The court revealed that Podlubny, a traveling salesman, had previous convictions dating back to the 1970s, including attempted rape in Leicester in 1976 and a rape in Harrogate in 1980, for which he served four years.
These past crimes remained hidden from his professional and personal circles.
His dark tendencies resurfaced after heavy drinking at the annual Ambex trade conference in Harrogate, where he targeted victims during social events.
In 1999, he allegedly assaulted a 29-year-old woman, dragging her into a garden and escaping detection at the time.
It was only in July of this year that police apprehended him at the same conference location after he had held a 45-year-old woman captive until 6 a.m., assaulting her repeatedly and then walking her to a taxi after a conversation about birds in the park.
The victim provided police with a detailed description, which led to Podlubny’s arrest at his home five weeks later.
The 1999 victim also came forward, confirming her assault.
Prosecutor Jonathan Carroll revealed that Podlubny had confessed to his wife about the rapes during preparations for police interviews.
His criminal behavior dates back to when he was just 21, although his first conviction in Leicester did not result in imprisonment.
Overall, the case underscores a disturbing pattern of sexual violence and illegal activity spanning decades, with Podlubny’s latest actions prompting serious legal consequences and ongoing monitoring to prevent further harm.
