A MAN FOLLOWED HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND HOME THROUGH GLENROTHES, CARRYING A GLASS BOTTLE WHICH HE USED TO CUT HIS OWN THROAT.
In 2021, Michael Pattinson, aged 23 and an inmate at Perth Prison, appeared via video link before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit to behaviours involving threats or abuse. The incident took place on June 3, when Pattinson trailed his former partner along Warout Road and Glamis Avenue in a Fife town.
Depute Fiscal Claire Bremner stated that the couple’s relationship ended after Pattinson was imprisoned in 2019.
It was reported that the complainant was walking home around 9:20 pm when Pattinson approached her.
He allegedly made threats of assault against her mother and step-father.
Pattinson was said to have pursued her, shouting and swearing, while she was on the phone crying and seeking assistance from her mother.
During this, he kept following her.
Her mother promptly contacted the police.
At one point, Pattinson tore a vodka bottle he was holding and declared, “I’m going to your mum’s house, watch and f ****** learn.” Ms Bremner noted that Pattinson then took the bottle and cut his own neck three times, causing bleeding.
The injuries were not severe enough to require hospital treatment.
Scott Mckenzie, defending, said Pattinson had been intoxicated and on Valium at the time.
Since he was already under a non-harassment order preventing contact with his ex-partner until 2024, Sheriff James Williamson postponed sentencing until the following month to evaluate if the order should be extended and to assess his risk to other women.
