Sept 2009 Sex attacker jailed A sex predator who assaulted two schoolgirls on Wandsworth Common was jailed at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday. Michael McCalla, 45, was described by the judge as a “very dangerous offender” after being found guilty of eight counts of sexual assault. The unemployed pervert targeted women and girls in Wandsworth, Lambeth and Southwark between October 2007 and September 2008. He would approach them in or near parks pretending to ask for directions, gradually getting bolder and more violent. He was finally arrested and charged when he left DNA at the scene of a violent attack on a Lambeth woman who he had followed into a block of flats. The Jamaican-born man, of no fixed address, was given an indefinite sentence and told it would be at least two and a half years before he could be considered for parole. Speaking outside of court, Detective Inspector Mark Cranwell from Wandsworth Police said: “The capture and conviction of McCalla will reassure the public that this man has been taken off the streets. “We are indebted to the victims and witnesses in this case who have had to come to court and relive their ordeal. “I would like to take this opportunity to assure anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual assault to report it to police, we will investigate.”
