MICHAEL MARTIN FROM PASTON AND SHEEPWALK JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN PETERBOROUGH
| Red Rose Database
Paston Sheepwalk Rapist
In a significant case that highlights the ongoing efforts to bring justice to victims of childhood sexual abuse, Michael Martin, a 60-year-old man residing in Sheepwalk, Paston, Peterborough, has been sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison. The conviction stems from heinous crimes committed over three decades ago, involving two young girls who suffered at his hands during different periods in the late 20th century.
Martin's first known victim was targeted between the years 1979 and 1983, a period during which she was aged between nine and thirteen. The abuse inflicted upon her was of a sexual nature, and it left a lasting impact on her life. The second girl, who was only between three and five years old at the time, was subjected to abuse by Martin between 1991 and 1993. These acts of cruelty and exploitation are now part of a criminal record that has finally resulted in justice after many years.
Authorities moved to apprehend Martin in September of the previous year, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges. He faced six counts of indecent assault and four counts of rape concerning the first victim, with these offences allegedly occurring during the 1980s. Despite his initial denial of all charges, Martin was found guilty of the indecent assaults after two separate trials held at Peterborough Crown Court. However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the rape charges in either trial, leaving those counts unresolved.
Today, at the same court, Martin was formally sentenced to 12 years in prison for his crimes. The case was overseen by Detective Constable Natalie Bottom, who played a key role in the investigation. She expressed her appreciation for the bravery shown by the victims, stating, “The victims showed great bravery to come forward and give evidence at both trials. Martin is a predator who used these girls for his own sexual gratification. We’re pleased he has now been brought to justice and hope it gives the victims some closure and allows them to move on with their lives.”
