July 2012 Paedophile jailed three decades after committing offences A paedophile from Peterborough who sexually abused two young girls more than 30 years ago has been jailed for 12 years, Michael Martin (60), of Sheepwalk, Paston, Peterborough, targeted one of the girls between 1979 and 1983 while she was between nine and 13-years-old. He then abused a second girl between 1991 and 1993 when she was between three and five-years-old. Martin was arrested in September last year and was charged with six counts of indecent assault and four counts of rape on the first victim which are said to have taken place in the 1980s. He denied the charges but was convicted of the indecent assaults following two trials at Peterborough Crown Court. The jury failed to reach a verdict on the rape charges at both trials. Today he was jailed for a total of 12 years at Peterborough Crown Crown Court. Detective Constable Natalie Bottom, who investigated, said: “The victims showed great bravery to come forward and give evidence at both trials. “Martin is a predator who used these girls for his own sexual gratification. “We’re pleased he has now been brought to justice and hope it gives the victims some closure and allows them to move on with their lives.”
