DISTURBED DOCTOR SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR DECADES OF RAPE AND ASSAULT
The court trial revealed that Michael Lever, a doctor with a disturbing history, drugged, raped, and assaulted two women over a span of two decades. One victim described him as a "monster" during the proceedings.
Lever was found guilty last October despite denying the crimes, and at the Glasgow High Court, Lady Rae sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum of four and a half years to serve.
The judge described Lever as "controlling, abusive as well as sexually and physically violent," and emphasized her belief that he was a "high risk offender." The assaults occurred between 1993 and 2013 in various locations including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayr, and the Borders.
Evidence presented in court detailed how he initially appeared charming but later drugged the women with substances such as amyl nitrate, Spanish Fly, and GHB, to facilitate the assaults.
One victim recounted that he put a pillowcase over her face, ignoring her screams, and she was later found naked, bruised, and crying in a wardrobe with her arms tied.
Another woman relived her terror with threats of murder if she disobeyed his demands.
Lever’s history includes a previous 15-month jail sentence in 2013 for attacking family members, strangling his pregnant wife in 1997 and 1998, and assaulting her son and teenage daughter.
He is also permanently struck off by the General Medical Council.
