MICHAEL LEE OF ELY JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CAMBRIDGE

N/A Sexual Abuser
In July 2010, Michael Lee, a 40-year-old man from Parsons Lane, Ely, was sentenced to six years in prison after confessing to sexually abusing a 7-year-old boy. Lee, described as a "dangerously disturbed" individual who is "sexually obsessed with children," pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault involving the young boy.

His offending came to light after the child was accused of performing similar sexual acts on another boy during a Cub Scouts camping trip in December of the previous year. During police interviews, the boy revealed that he had learned the acts from Lee and expressed that he "missed it." Lee justified his actions by claiming that the boy was "too young to remember it and it wouldn’t hurt him."

Lee, who is a father of three, was arrested in February. During a search of his home, police discovered diaries filled with sadistic fantasies about baby girls, along with a collection of children’s underwear. Lee also admitted to having violent sexual dreams involving infant girls.

Prosecutor James Earle informed Cambridge Crown Court on Friday that Lee had acknowledged being sexually attracted to children since the age of 15 and had previously accessed child pornography online.

Defence lawyer Mark Shelley noted that finding mitigation for such cases was challenging but highlighted that Lee’s violent sexual dreams had ceased since his imprisonment and that he had been attending church regularly.

In his remarks, Judge Gareth Hawkesworth described Lee as "a man who is dangerously disturbed," further stating, "You carry with you the stamp of someone who appears to have been sexually obsessed with children. It is quite evident that you have no real insight into why you committed it and the nature of what you were committing."

The judge emphasized the serious risk Lee posed to young children, concluding, "You admitted that you had a sexual urge and that you wanted to gratify it. You pose a serious risk of harm to young children. I see no alternative to an immediate custodial sentence."

As part of his sentence, Michael Lee will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for life and is banned for five years from contacting, working with, or living with children, as well as from befriending or making contact with any parent or legal guardian of a minor under 16.
