WIGAN THUG MICHAEL JONES CONVICTED OF DOMESTIC ABUSE FOLLOWING CAMPAIGN OF COERCIVE CONTROL AND ASSAULT
Michael Jones, now 20, from Wigan, has been convicted of a series of domestic abuse offences, including actual bodily harm, coercive control, and harassment. The conviction follows a deeply troubling year-long campaign of violence and intimidation against his former partner.
Court documents from Cheshire Youth Court reveal that Jones pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, and harassment without violence.
These offences occurred between July and October 2022.
He appeared before Warrington Youth Court on 19th October 2023, where he was sentenced to a 12-month Youth Referral Order.
A three-year restraining order was also issued, prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim, VICTIM REDACTED until 18th October 2026.
Any breach of this order could result in up to five years in prison.
In a personal impact statement read out in court, VICTIM REDACTED described how the abuse began with verbal control and quickly escalated into physical violence.
She stated that in 2022, Michael began telling her who she could speak to, threatening to beat her if she didn’t end phone calls with friends.
Over time, he became increasingly controlling, forbidding her from going out or seeing family.
His behaviour soon turned violent.
At one point, she was hospitalised after he cut her mouth open.
She recalled being constantly covered in bruises, which became a daily occurrence.
She said she felt trapped and isolated, as he had made her push everyone away, and the abuse continued for a year before she was finally able to leave the relationship.
The restraining order issued by the court bans Jones from contacting VICTIM REDACTED by any means, other than through the Youth Justice Service.
Authorities have warned that any breach will be treated as a criminal offence, with potential imprisonment.
Support organisations are urging anyone experiencing abuse to reach out.
