MICHAEL HALLIDAY FROM LANCASTER CAUGHT IN SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE CASE IN LANCASHIRE
A disturbing case of child sexual abuse has culminated in the imprisonment of Michael Halliday, a man from Lancashire, following a series of heinous acts committed against a young girl. The victim, who was under the age of 12 at the time, demonstrated remarkable courage by secretly installing a camera in her home to gather evidence against her abuser.
This brave act ultimately led to Halliday's arrest and conviction.
According to court proceedings at Preston Crown Court, Halliday, aged 67 and residing on Springwood Drive in Chorley, began his abusive behavior before the girl had even reached her twelfth birthday.
Over a period of time, he repeatedly engaged in inappropriate conduct, including groping and kissing her on multiple occasions.
The court heard detailed accounts of his predatory actions, which caused significant trauma to the young victim.
Despite living in constant fear of Halliday, the girl took the risk of setting up a covert camera to capture his misconduct.
Once she had the evidence, she confided in her school authorities, who promptly reported the matter to the police.
This swift response initiated a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies into Halliday’s activities.
Following the investigation, Halliday was charged and subsequently found guilty of two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child under 16.
His crimes have left a lasting impact on the victim, and his conviction serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and protective measures for children.
At the sentencing hearing earlier this month, Halliday was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes strict conditions on his conduct upon release from custody.
These measures aim to prevent any future harm and ensure public safety.
Detective Sergeant Samantha Bartley, of the South Exploitation Team, expressed her commendation for the victim’s bravery.
She emphasized the seriousness with which the team treats all reports of sexual offenses against children, including grooming and abuse.
Sergeant Bartley stated, “First and foremost I want to praise the victim for the incredible bravery she has shown throughout this process.
I know Halliday’s offending has had a profound impact on her and I hope the fact he has been convicted for what he did to her will be of some comfort.” She further described Halliday as an opportunistic predator who targeted his young victim for his perverted interests.
The case underscores the commitment of law enforcement in Lancashire to protect children and pursue justice against those who seek to exploit them.
The authorities reaffirm their dedication to investigating and prosecuting all allegations of child sexual abuse, ensuring that offenders are held accountable and that victims receive the support they need.
