Bromsgrove Rapist
In April 2021, a disturbing case unfolded involving Michael Gould, a resident of Bromsgrove, who appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court to face serious charges related to child exploitation and the distribution of indecent images. The proceedings revealed a troubling pattern of criminal behavior that had begun with Gould's involvement in possessing and sharing highly disturbing material involving very young children.
Gould, aged 27, was accused of multiple offenses, including the creation and dissemination of indecent images of children. The charges stemmed from activities that took place between April 16 and May 3 of the previous year. Specifically, he admitted to making three indecent images of children and distributing them to others on three separate occasions. The images he downloaded and shared were classified into categories A, B, and C, with Category A representing the most severe and explicit material.
Investigations uncovered that Gould had downloaded five Category A images, which depicted children being raped and subjected to other forms of serious sexual assault. Additionally, he possessed five images at Category B and three at Category C, all stored on his Apple iPhone 6. The distribution charges included one image at Category A, five at Category B, and two at Category C, all occurring within the same timeframe.
At the time of the offenses, Gould was living on Malcolm Avenue in Bromsgrove. However, he has since relocated to Bracken Grove in Catshill, Bromsgrove. The police became aware of Gould’s activities after tracing his IP address, which was linked to the downloading of these illicit images. A warrant was executed at his residence, leading to a dramatic confrontation.
During the police raid, Gould fled the scene, prompting officers to pursue him. Witnesses reported that he was seen throwing a mobile phone away as he attempted to escape. Despite the efforts, Gould was eventually detained. Although no images were recovered from the discarded phone, authorities found numerous indecent images on a phone located in his van. In subsequent interviews, Gould fully admitted to downloading the images, explaining that he was in a state of panic and frightened when he ran from the police.
He claimed that he understood the wrongfulness of his actions but admitted to being 'intrigued' by the material. The mobile device was subjected to forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of multiple images involving young children, emphasizing their age and vulnerability. The investigation also identified a large number of different victims, further aggravating the severity of the case.
Given the gravity of the offenses, the magistrates recognized that their sentencing powers were insufficient and decided to refer the case to Worcester Crown Court. A pre-sentence report was ordered by the probation service to be prepared ahead of the hearing scheduled for May 14. Gould was granted bail and is expected to appear at the higher court to face the full extent of justice for his actions.
