RISCA MAN MICHAEL EVANS FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGE OFFENSES IN NEWPORT
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention in the Risca community and beyond, Michael Evans, a 67-year-old resident of Vale View in Risca, was convicted yesterday at Newport Crown Court on multiple charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children.The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior involving the possession of both indecent and non-nude images, raising serious concerns about the safety and well-being of minors depicted in these photographs.
According to court records, Evans was found guilty of nine counts of making indecent images of children, with these offenses spanning from October 2009 to February 2010.
In addition, he was convicted of possessing a total of 209 indecent images of children, a discovery that shocked many in the local community.
The evidence against Evans was uncovered after police investigations that began when he took his laptop to a computer repair shop in Risca.
During the repair process, authorities seized the device and found a troubling collection of images stored within.
During the trial, Evans' defense attorney, Heath Edwards, attempted to provide context for his client's actions.
Edwards explained that Evans had come across some of the illicit images after learning that a family member was viewing child pornography on his laptop.
According to Edwards, pop-up images began appearing unexpectedly, prompting Evans to take drastic measures to remove the content.
He transferred the files onto CDs and a pen drive in an effort to delete them from his computer.
