MICHAEL ELIAS FROM LETCHWORTH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND INDECENT IMAGES
In a serious case of child sexual exploitation and possession of indecent images, Michael Elias, a resident of Letchworth, was sentenced to a total of three years in prison during a hearing at St Albans Crown Court last Tuesday.
Elias, who was actively involved in running a youth group from the Jackmans Community Centre in Letchworth, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of minors.
The court established that Elias, aged 45, had engaged in disturbing acts of exploitation between August and September 2016.
Specifically, he was convicted of encouraging a teenage girl to take a shower and record herself doing so, an act that constituted sexual exploitation.
Additionally, between June and September 2016, Elias coerced another 16-year-old girl into sending him indecent photographs of herself.
These actions led to two counts of sexual exploitation, for which he received a sentence of two and a half years, to be served concurrently.
Further charges revealed that Elias possessed indecent images of children, including Category A images involving penetrative sexual activity, as well as Category B and C images.
These images were found to have been created or possessed in February 2017.
The court also found that Elias had made one Category A image and four Category B images over a period stretching from July 2012 to February 2017.
For these offenses, Judge Philip Grey sentenced Elias to an additional six months in prison, to be served consecutively, while the other sentences ran concurrently, culminating in a total prison term of three years.
In addition to his imprisonment, Elias was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect until further notice.
The case highlights the disturbing nature of the crimes committed by Elias, who was also associated with the youth activities at the community centre, which is known for hosting events such as the annual fun day.
The court's decision underscores the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing efforts to protect minors from exploitation and abuse.
