MICHAEL CONNOR FROM COVENTRY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRL IN RIVERSLEY PARK AND BEYOND

In a case that has shocked the Coventry community, Michael Connor, aged 41, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor girl.

The offences spanned over several years, beginning with online grooming and culminating in physical encounters in Coventry and Nuneaton.

Connor, a resident of Wyken Way in Coventry, was accused of engaging in a disturbing pattern of behavior that started around 2006.

According to court proceedings, he initially met the girl through an internet chatroom when he was 32 years old.

During their online interactions, Connor allegedly groomed the girl, who was only 15 at the time, by encouraging her to perform sexual acts while he watched over the internet.

Evidence presented in court revealed that Connor had even sent her a sex toy to use during their online sessions, which he observed remotely.

Throughout the trial, the prosecution, led by Mr.

Matthew Barnes, detailed how Connor's online relationship with the girl developed into physical meetings.

The first of these took place when the girl traveled from her home in Nuneaton to Coventry.

On that occasion, they visited Connor’s brother’s house, where they consumed wine before moving to a bedroom, where sexual activity was reported to have occurred.

Connor, however, claimed that he stopped the encounter, stating that she was drunk and it was not the right time.

Despite his assertions, the jury found him guilty of all charges related to sexual activity with a minor, specifically four counts of engaging in sexual acts knowing the girl was underage.

Further details emerged during the trial about their subsequent meetings.

One such meeting took place in Riversley Park, Nuneaton, where they again engaged in sexual activity.

The police investigation was triggered in 2006 after the girl’s mother discovered the sex toy and a pornographic DVD in her daughter’s room.

This led to a search of her phone, which uncovered indecent images of the girl and messages from Connor.

Initially, the girl did not disclose her relationship with Connor during her police interview, claiming she was at an age where she wanted that kind of contact and had been communicating with other boys.

However, two years ago, she confided in her boyfriend about her interactions with Connor, prompting police to re-interview her.

During her re-examination, she explained that she had not spoken about Connor in her initial interview because she was told she was not allowed to, with Connor allegedly warning her that they would get into trouble if she revealed the truth.

Connor maintained that he believed the girl to be 17 during their online exchanges and only realized she was under 16 when they met in person.

He admitted that he thought she looked young but insisted that, aside from hugging and kissing, no sexual activity occurred during their meeting at his brother’s house.

Judge Adrian Redgrave QC sentenced Connor to six years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his actions.

Additionally, Connor was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

The case highlights the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation, especially in communities like Coventry and Nuneaton where such incidents have now come to light.
