September 2015 Man caught with child images is spared jail A MAN caught with indecent images of children has avoided a prison sentence. Police found the images on Michael Collins’ computer when they visited him following a past conviction for distributing similar images. The 41-year-old, of Myrtle Grove, Southsea, was caught by police officers with 68 category C still images, the lowest category, and one category B movie on April 20. Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday heard they were stored on a computer and his three mobile phones. Prosecutor Daniel Sawyer said Collins was convicted in 2006 of six counts of distributing indecent images of children and one count of possession. He was jailed for 32 weeks for that offence. Sentencing, Judge Ian Pearson said: ‘These aren’t victimless offences.’ Collins received a nine-month jail term suspended for two years with a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years. He must pay £350 costs and will be subject to two years supervision with treatment and must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
