CAMBORNE MENTAL HEALTHCARE SEX ABUSER JAILED
A former health care assistant from Camborne was jailed yesterday for sexually abusing vulnerable women in Penzance.Michael Callon, of Pendarves View - and formerly Marazion - was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Truro Crown Court for sexual offences committed against two vulnerable women.
The 40-year-old was employed by the Cornwall Foundation Trust from June 2008 to April 2011 and abused his position to take advantage of his clients' vulnerablilites and form inappropriate sexual relationships, the court heard.
He pleaded guilty to all six counts of sexual abuse and was made subject to a lifetime sexual offences prevention order as well as being jailed.
Following the hearing, police safeguarding supervisor Detective Sergeant Andy Buckley said: "The police and our partner agencies have collaborated in a detailed and thorough investigation surrounding these crimes and we feel that justice has been served today.
The victims were subjected to a prolonged and traumatic period of abuse and there will be ongoing support for them to deal with the abuses of trust they have endured.
Hopefully this will help bring some closure to their ordeals.
Safeguarding vulnerable people remains a key policing priority both nationally and in Devon and Cornwall.
Hopefully decisions such as this will give vulnerable people the confidence to come forward and report incidents of concern – especially that of professional abuse."
