Barwell Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local community of Barwell, Michael Armstrong, a resident of Maryland Close, has been found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences involving a young girl. The crimes, which spanned nearly a decade, included the rape of a child under the age of 13, as well as other serious allegations such as engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a minor under 16 and indecent assault.
According to Detective Sergeant Craig Boswell, who led the investigation, the victim endured approximately ten years of abuse at the hands of Armstrong. The detective revealed that the girl had been living with the burden of what had happened to her for a much longer period before Armstrong finally admitted his guilt. Boswell expressed relief that Armstrong chose to confess, which spared the young victim the trauma of a lengthy trial process.
βThe victim endured around 10 years of abuse at the hands of Armstrong and lived with the knowledge of what had happened to her for much longer before he admitted his guilt,β Boswell stated. βI am pleased the defendant finally confessed to committing these horrendous acts and spared the victim the trauma of having to go through a trial. I hope now he is serving a lengthy prison sentence she can finally have closure on what has been a painful nine months of investigation and a lifetime of living with what he did to her.β
Following the conviction, Armstrong, aged 58, was sentenced to a substantial term of 13 years in prison. The sentencing took place at Leicester Crown Court, bringing a measure of justice for the victim and the community of Barwell, which has been deeply affected by this case.
