MICHAEL AGGABAO SENTENCED IN HERTFORDSHIRE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ST ALBANS
A man from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, has been handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious child sexual offences.Michael Aggabao, aged 51 and residing on Lister Close in Stevenage, was found guilty following a comprehensive 10-day trial held at St Albans Crown Court in October 2023.
During the trial, the court heard that Aggabao was responsible for six counts of sexual assault, one count of digital penetration, and one count of attempted digital penetration.
These offences were committed against two young victims, both under the age of 13 at the time of the incidents.
The crimes spanned several years, with some occurring between May 2009 and May 2014, and others taking place in March 2019.
It is important to note that Aggabao was acquitted of one count of sexual assault and one count of digital penetration, which means the jury did not find sufficient evidence to convict him on those particular charges.
However, the remaining charges resulted in a substantial conviction.
For the offences related to the first victim, Aggabao received a total prison sentence of five years, along with an additional year on an extended licence, which is a period of supervision following release.
Additionally, he was sentenced to nine years concurrently, meaning these sentences run alongside each other.
The charges involving the second victim resulted in a three-year prison term, with a further nine years to be served concurrently.
In total, the sentences for both victims will be served consecutively, leading to a combined prison term of eight years, plus an extra year on extended licence.
This means Aggabao will serve a total of nine years in prison before any potential release, subject to the conditions of his extended licence.
Beyond his prison sentence, Aggabao was also handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and protect the public from potential future offences.
He will also be registered on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and oversight.
Detective Constable Sam Dutton, who is part of Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Non-Recent Sexual Offences Team, commented on the case: “The predatory and harmful behaviours of Aggabao have had a long-lasting impact on the lives of both the victims and their families.
I hope this conviction and lengthy sentence demonstrates our commitment to taking proactive action against anyone who targets young people.” Authorities emphasize that becoming a victim of sexual assault is never the victim’s fault.
They encourage anyone who has experienced such offences, regardless of how much time has passed, to come forward and report the incident.
