OLD PAEDOPHILE'S VILE OFFENCES 'SEVERELY DAMAGED' VICTIM
A paedophile has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual abuse of a child, a court has heard.
Melvyn Harris, 82, abused his victim in Cornwall decades ago.
Harris, of Penweathers, Truro, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentencing after being found guilty by a jury on five counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13, and two counts of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard in a harrowing victim impact statement how the offence has impacted the victim throughout her life.
The judge took the defendant's old age and poor physical health into consideration.
Harris was sentenced to nine years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for life.
