HERTFORDSHIRE SEXUAL OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON
A man who sexually abused three girls in Hertfordshire during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s has been sentenced to prison.Maurice McEntire, aged 73, was convicted of multiple offences including rapes, attempted rapes, and indecent assaults spanning a 14-year period.
McEntire, who is from Worthing, Sussex, appeared via video link at St Albans Crown Court and is set to be transferred from a care home to prison.
He was sentenced to 14 years and the judge noted that due to his ill health, it is 'inevitable he will die in prison.' Judge Caroline Wigin stated that the defendant had shown 'no remorse' for his years of offending in the Cheshunt area.
The judge described his abuse as sexually, physically, and emotionally threatening.
One victim, abused from the age of six, shared that she still perceives herself as a 'scared and broken little girl' and struggles to trust others, becoming over-protective of her children.
Another woman described thinking that such abuse was common among girls, leading her to become a loner and engage in self-harm.
The third victim felt 'insignificant' and like 'damaged goods.' McEntire had denied the charges, and during the sentencing, he appeared via a mobile phone link from a care home in Lancing, Sussex.
His barrister, Jonathan Page, stated that a doctor had indicated he may not last six months due to severe health issues, including chronic coronary heart disease and COPD, which impair his lungs and mobility.
