MATTHEW WHITBY, THE DANGEROUS CHILD RAPIST FROM STAFFORDSHIRE, SENTENCED TO OVER A DECADE IN PRISON
In a case that has shocked the community of Staffordshire, Matthew Whitby, also known as Rose Whitby, has been sentenced to more than ten years behind bars for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl.The 32-year-old offender, who has a history of changing his name, was brought before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court to face justice for his latest offenses.
Whitby’s criminal history is extensive.
He was previously convicted in 2013 of two counts of rape and attempted rape involving young women.
Following that conviction, he served an eight-year prison sentence, but was released in 2017.
However, his release was short-lived, as he was later recalled to prison due to new allegations and evidence of further offending.
The recent case emerged after a victim came forward last year, revealing that she had been subjected to repeated sexual assaults by Whitby.
The court heard that the abuse took place on multiple occasions, with the victim describing being raped in a garden and on a canal bench.
During the assaults, a second individual was involved in restraining her, making the abuse even more traumatic.
The victim, who is still suffering from paranoia, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, bravely provided her account to the police, which led to Whitby’s arrest.
Prosecutor Ben Lawrence detailed the severity of the abuse, stating, “The defendant would then hold her down while the other person raped her.
She would cry while being raped.
She says she was raped in this way on a lot of occasions.” The victim reported the abuse in May 2021, initially denying the allegations, but later, on January 2 of this year, she flagged down police officers, expressing her desire to be arrested for the rape and warning that she would kill herself if not taken into custody.
In court, Whitby admitted to three charges of raping a child under the age of 13.
As a result, he was handed a substantial extended sentence of 15 and a half years.
The judge, David Fletcher, emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating, “These matters are much more serious than the matters you were convicted of in 2013.
This was a particularly vulnerable child due to her extreme youth and circumstances.
This was a campaign of rape.
You are clearly a dangerous offender.” Furthermore, Whitby has been classified as a ‘dangerous’ individual, which means he will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his 10-and-a-half-year custodial sentence before being considered for parole.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future activities and protect the public from further harm.
Details of Whitby’s background reveal a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior.
He previously lived in Thorpe Green, Newstead, and was part of a family with a notorious criminal history.
His father, Milan Babic, received a life sentence after being convicted of 40 serious sexual offenses against eight women.
His younger brother, Mikorlee Babic, was jailed for three years for a rape conviction, while their mother, Deborah Babic, was sentenced to five years after threatening to kill one of her son’s victims.
The family resided at James Brindley Close, in Etruria.
The court’s verdict underscores the severity of Whitby’s actions and the ongoing threat he poses.
The judge’s remarks serve as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable children from predators like him, and the justice system’s commitment to holding such offenders accountable.
