KELSO MAN JAILED FOR SEVERELY ASSAULTING PARTNER
A 38-year-old man named Matthew Wotherspoon, residing in Carronshore near Falkirk, was found guilty of assaulting his partner to her severe injury in the Borders three years ago.The incident occurred in Kelso, where Wotherspoon was convicted in June 2019 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
As a result of his actions, he was sentenced to a total of 14 months in jail.
Wotherspoon received an 11-month sentence for the assault, with a non-harassment order issued to prevent any contact with the woman for the next ten years.
Additionally, he was given a three-month imprisonment sentence, back-dated to May 2022, for assaulting the same woman earlier this year and for breaching bail conditions.
The sentence for the earlier assault was set to run consecutively to the 11-month sentence, effectively increasing his time in custody.
Chris Dickson, the officer handling the case, explained that Wotherspoon's combined sentences would result in a significant custodial period.
The assault in question involved severe injuries to the victim, and Wotherspoon’s conviction and sentencing underscore the serious nature of his offense.
