MATTHEW THOMAS SHAMES SWANSEA WITH CRUDE WEBCAM ACT AGAINST CEREBRAL PALSY TEENAGER
In July 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving a man from Swansea who targeted a vulnerable teenage girl with cerebral palsy through online communications.The individual, identified as Matthew Thomas, engaged in a series of malicious and predatory acts that have shocked the local community and prompted serious legal action.
It was revealed that Thomas initiated contact with the teenage girl via Facebook, sending her a simple message that read 'Hi'.
This initial message was seemingly innocuous, but it marked the beginning of a disturbing pattern of harassment.
Shortly after, Thomas invited her to join a video call, which she accepted out of curiosity or perhaps confusion.
During the call, the girl was confronted with a distressing sight: Thomas, under the bedsheets, was performing a sexual act on himself while his webcam was active.
The girl, understandably alarmed and distressed, immediately terminated the call.
However, her ordeal was far from over.
Shortly thereafter, Thomas called her again, and this time, he had removed the bedsheet, exposing himself clearly on camera as he continued his inappropriate behavior.
Two weeks following this incident, the same teenage girl received another video call from a profile under the alias 'Sophie Price'.
Believing it to be the same individual, she answered, only to find that it was Matthew Thomas once again engaging in the same explicit act on camera.
This pattern of predatory behavior demonstrated a clear intent to exploit and abuse a vulnerable minor.
Law enforcement authorities later interviewed Thomas, who chose not to comment on the allegations.
It was established that he was 21 years old at the time and was described as having no fixed abode, indicating a transient lifestyle.
His criminal record includes multiple serious charges, and he is currently serving a lengthy sentence.
In May of the same year, Thomas pleaded guilty to numerous offenses, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, possession and distribution of indecent images, and possession of extreme pornography.
The court proceedings culminated in a significant sentencing.
Judge Paul Thomas addressed the court, expressing regret that the case was not brought before him earlier.
He stated, 'Last year, whilst under investigation, you started talking to a girl with cerebral palsy and started carrying out a sex act on yourself.' The judge also noted that Thomas had already been sentenced to six years in prison with a four-year license period for his other crimes.
To reflect the gravity of his latest offenses, the judge issued a concurrent sentence of eight months, emphasizing that future cases could result in additional legal action if necessary.
The judge's comments underscored the serious nature of Thomas's actions and the ongoing threat posed by such offenders within the community.
