ROSSENDALE MAN CAUGHT IN CHILD GROOMING SCHEME SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL CONVERSATIONS WITH DECOY
A man identified as Matthew Talbot, aged 39, engaged in sexually charged conversations with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl on the Kik messaging app on July 26.
The girl, called "Izzy," was actually an undercover police officer operating a decoy account.
Talbot claimed to be a 36-year-old from Rossendale, while responding as if she was a 13-year-old girl from Preston.
Despite this, he continued the chat, expressing no concern about her age and requesting her Snapchat username to exchange pictures.
Further online discussions involved him discussing sending indecent images, and he called her "cute and sexy".
Talbot, who had no prior convictions, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communications with a child under 16.
He was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 45 hours of rehabilitation activity and 200 hours of unpaid work.
The court described his actions as a "disgraceful" offence and a "grubby offence".
