DONCASTER MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT RAPE AND CHILD STRANGULATION
A 34-year-old man named Matthew Morrell, from Crabgate Drive in Skellow, was implicated in a series of grave crimes including the sexual assault of a woman, the strangulation of a child, and causing her significant injuries. The victim recounted how Morrell subjected her to brutal sexual violence, leading to various injuries.
He also threatened her life, warning, "I'll bury you in the garden," after restraining her in a room and forcing her to stay silent.
Beyond this, Morrell was responsible for strangling a child and attacking the woman physically—stomping on her legs, pulling her hair, pushing her down stairs, and strangling her with a dressing gown cord.
Following his apprehension, he faced charges and was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court.
Morrell was sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison for multiple crimes, including rape, false imprisonment, five counts of non-fatal strangulation, five assaults, and damage to property twice.
He was additionally mandated to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and issued lifelong restraining orders to prevent contact with his victims.
Detective Jack Goodall from South Yorkshire Police described Morrell’s actions as “a heinous and horrific campaign of abuse by a dangerous man who should be nowhere near women and children.” He praised the victims’ bravery in reporting the incidents and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to investigating such serious offences thoroughly.
