Knowle Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Knowle, Matthew Milkins, a 36-year-old resident of Kildare Road, was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a vulnerable under-age girl. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, revealed Milkins involved in a sexual act with the young girl and attempting to initiate further sexual contact.

Milkins pleaded guilty to two charges related to sexual activity with a child, a case that drew significant attention from the court and local residents alike. During the sentencing, Judge Geoffrey Mercer QC emphasized the severity of the offense, stating, "This was a girl who was vulnerable and had her difficulties. The emotional and psychological harm caused cannot be under-estimated. Who knows?" The judge also ordered Milkins to be subject to a sexual offences prevention order, which aims to restrict his contact with children, and mandated that he register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.

Prosecutor Charles Thomas provided additional context, revealing that the young girl involved had been interviewed and confirmed that no full sexual intercourse had taken place. He highlighted her troubled background, noting, "She came from a troubled background with significant social services input in the past." The court was informed that Milkins had no previous convictions relevant to sexual offenses, which was considered during sentencing.

Defense lawyer Sam Jones addressed the court, explaining that Milkins had pleaded guilty at the end of April and expressed his client’s remorse and concern about the possibility of incarceration. Mr. Jones described Milkins as an "immature" individual who had consumed heavy alcohol on the day of the incident, compounded by medication he was taking following a serious brain injury sustained earlier in life. The defense argued that Milkins had found himself alone with the girl, who was also drinking at the time.

It was revealed that the girl was a mature 14-year-old with a history of involvement with older men, and that this was not her first sexual encounter. The court was told that Milkins and the girl engaged in a conversation for approximately twenty minutes before the incident occurred. Furthermore, the defense requested that Milkins undergo sex offender treatment, emphasizing that this would serve the public interest and aid in his rehabilitation rather than immediate imprisonment.

Overall, the case has raised serious concerns about safeguarding and the protection of vulnerable minors within the community of Knowle, prompting calls for increased vigilance and preventative measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
