SHREWSBURY PAEDOPHILE HUNTER CAUGHT MATTHEW DAVENPORT AVOIDING JAIL

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Shrewsbury, Matthew Davenport, a 41-year-old resident of Churchill Road, was caught in a sting operation conducted by vigilant paedophile hunters.

The incident, which took place between September and December of 2017, involved Davenport engaging in inappropriate and sexualized communication with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

These paedophile hunter groups had set up a fake online profile, pretending to be a young girl to lure potential offenders.

Davenport, at the time, believed he was communicating with a minor and was unaware that he was being monitored.

The authorities confirmed that Davenport initiated contact with the fake profile and quickly moved the conversation towards sexual topics, raising serious concerns about his intentions.

According to the prosecution, Sati Ruck, during the hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, stated, “The group was contacted by the defendant and he was informed that the person he was speaking to was a 13-year-old girl.

He was 40 at the time but his profile said he was 18.

The defendant very quickly moved the conversation to a sexual nature.” Further details revealed that in October, Davenport sent a message asking if the girl would like to meet up, offering to take her shopping and pay for her hair and nails.

Although no actual arrangements were made, he also sent a sexual image of himself to the fake profile, indicating his intentions.

On December 27, Davenport was arrested by authorities.

During questioning, he admitted that he had signed up to the website out of loneliness, a statement that seemed to reflect his personal struggles.

The court heard that Davenport’s actions were part of a pattern of inappropriate online behavior.

Judge Anthony Lowe addressed Davenport directly, emphasizing the importance of addressing underlying issues to prevent future offenses.

He stated, “Davenport needed to address his issues in order for it not to happen again in the future.

You have undoubtedly had difficulties to cope with in your life.

But just because you have those difficulties doesn’t explain why you are effectively sexually attracted to children.

Whatever is going on in your head needs to be addressed.” While acknowledging the seriousness of the offense, Judge Lowe decided that Davenport would benefit more from a community order rather than a custodial sentence.

As part of his sentence, Davenport was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, and was required to sign the sex offenders register immediately.

The judge expressed hope that this would serve as a wake-up call for Davenport and a deterrent against future offenses.

In a related case from April 2018, Davenport had previously admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child during a separate incident.

This earlier case also involved a paedophile hunter sting, and Davenport was ordered to sign the sex offenders register with immediate effect, with the court noting the importance of monitoring his whereabouts.

The court had granted him conditional bail, and a sentencing date was scheduled for June of that year, reflecting ongoing concerns about his behavior and the potential risk to the community.
