Haverfordwest Rapist
In a landmark case that has sent shockwaves through Pembrokeshire and beyond, Martyn Armstrong, a 50-year-old man from Haverfordwest, was handed a life sentence after being convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of children. The sentencing took place at Cardiff Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of his offences, which included 20 counts of raping a child under the age of 13.
Armstrong's criminal activities extended to posting a distorted video of himself engaging in sexual acts with a young child on the dark web. Despite his efforts to conceal his identity through digital distortion techniques, law enforcement agencies, notably the National Crime Agency (NCA), employed advanced software to unmask him. This innovative technology was able to reverse the distortion, revealing his true identity and leading to his arrest in July 2022.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Armstrong had previously resided in Derbyshire but was now based in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. His crimes included not only the rape of two children but also sexual assault, inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activities, and the creation, distribution, and possession of indecent images of children (IIOC). The court was informed that he had taken photographs during the assaults and had also produced indecent images of another child.
