MARTIN SHARP FROM FIFE PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT IN DUNFERMLINE
In a serious criminal case that unfolded at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Martin Sharp, a 25-year-old government employee from Fife, faced charges of sexual assault involving a sleeping woman.Sharp admitted to the allegations during his court appearance, which took place in August 2023, and is now awaiting sentencing scheduled for next month.
Until then, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register, reflecting the gravity of his actions.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 2 of this year at a property in Rosyth, a town within Fife.
According to the prosecution, the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was lying on a bed covered with a duvet and blanket when the assault took place.
She was asleep when Sharp began to engage in inappropriate behavior, starting with tickling her feet and back.
The situation escalated as he proceeded to touch and kiss her breasts without her consent.
Procurator fiscal depute Andrew Brown provided details of the incident, stating that the woman initially pretended to be asleep to process what was happening around her.
However, she eventually woke up to find Sharp touching her breast with one hand, covering it with the other, and even kissing her.
The woman then questioned Sharp and asked him to leave the room, indicating her discomfort and desire to end the encounter.
During police interviews, Sharp, who resides on Carson Place in Rosyth, admitted to the misconduct.
He told officers that he would lose his job if the incident was reported to authorities, claiming that his actions were accidental and that he lacked self-control at the time.
When cautioned by police, Sharp expressed remorse, stating, “What I have done is wrong.
I did not think it was that bad at the time but now I know.” Defense lawyer Aime Allan described Sharp as a first-time offender who is currently employed full-time by the government.
However, she warned that his employment prospects could be affected by the case, though she did not specify the nature of his role.
The court was informed that the sentencing would be adjourned until August 23 to allow for background reports to be prepared.
Sheriff Charles Macnair continued Sharp’s bail and ordered that he remain on the Sex Offenders Register pending sentencing.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Government stated that they could not comment on ongoing criminal proceedings or individual staffing matters, emphasizing the sensitivity and confidentiality surrounding the case.
